Hello!
- As I mentioned last week, I will not be here this week, and Monday of next week.
- We are completing our work on computer organization
- We will be working on:
- We will review our formative assessments. Please carefully compare your answers to the answers on the markscheme. You should take about 20 minutes for this. If you have a question, register for an account here - NOT USING YOUR REAL NAME - and post a new question.
- We will learn about a base-16 number system, hexidecimal
- Please watch this video
- Please print this cheat sheet
- Please watch video
- Please visit this site and look at the lower-right problem set that starts with Hex to decimal
- Please don't look at page 2 (the answers are there) yet.
- Ignore the part of the problems that start with 0x
- The first problem is 0x5A 0x tells you tis is a hex value. YOU SHOULD ONLY CONVERT 5A
- Try all of them USING OUR CHEAT SHEET.
- You should begin preparing for a summative assessment. The summative assessment will include the following standards:
- Define the Boolean operators: AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR and XOR.
- Construct truth tables using the above operators.
- Construct a logic diagram using AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR and XOR gates.
- Define the terms: bit, byte, binary, denary/decimal, hexadecimal.
- Outline the architecture of the central processing unit (CPU) and the functions of the arithmetic logic unit (ALU) and the control unit (CU) and the registers within the CPU.
- Describe the main functions of an operating system.
Statement of Inquiry
The big idea for today is Computer organization.
The essential questions for this topic are:
