IB Year 2 Higher Level Computer Science
Thursday 25 August 2022 - Block 5
← previous note | most current note | next note →Daily Note
- Today we will revise for our control system test.
- Please know I will ask you a few questions from previous exams. I am unsure how many, or how much they will count as part of the final exam.
- Discuss a range of control systems.
- Outline the uses of microprocessors and sensor input in control systems.
- Evaluate different input devices for the collection of data in specified situations.
- Explain the relationship between a sensor, the processor and an output transducer.
- Describe the role of feedback in a control system.
- Discuss the social impacts and ethical considerations associated with the use of embedded systems.
- Compare a centrally controlled system with a distributed system.
- Outline the role of autonomous agents acting within a larger system.
A little less comfortable
Process
You should be revising for 15 minutes each evening. Ask yourself "do I understand this standard". If you don't, consult our wiki or ask your teacher or friends.
Product
Your understanding of control systems should include of all the control systems listed on our class wiki. You should be able to explain to a friend how each control system works.
Content
You should be able to explain each standard at the correct command-term-level.
A little more comfortable
Process
You should be revising for 30 minutes each evening. Ask yourself "do I understand this standard". If you don't, consult our wiki or ask your teacher or friends. You should be actively looking for control systems and thinking how they might work.
Product
Your understanding of control systems should include of all the control systems listed on our class wiki. You should be able to explain to a friend how each control system works. You should think about designing a control systems, perhaps with lego robotics or some other home robotics kit.
Content
You should be able to explain each standard at the correct command-term-level. You should also be able to teach the content to another student.
Statement of Inquiry
The big idea for today is Control.
The essential questions for this topic are:
What is a control system? How does a control system work?
It takes time to explore and really understand a big idea. If you want to

control (which is connected to today's daily note),

We are learning this because as a designers must understand scientific and technical innovation. Designers use systems, models, methods, and processes to solve problems.
